You are Nick Vrenna. It is the year 2009. You have been falsely incarcerated inside a high security underground prison where illegal genetic experiments are taking place. Alan Blake, the head research scientist, has isolated the specific gene which causes violence and aggression in humans. This genetic sequence, called 'Abuse', is highly infectious, causing horrific transformations and grotesque side-effects. You are the only person to show immunity to it.
And from here you are plunged into the control centre, with you being the only hope to stop this disaster from escaping out into the rest of the world. And what an adventure you have on the way.
This game has a very 'Alien' feel. Even the enemies look as if they have been taken out of the film. And it is in the darkest control centre that you have to battle these dark, cold, obsessive beasts.
It looks great, it sounds great (it will make you jump) and above all it plays great. Using a combination of keys to move the character and mouse to aim your weapon this game plays better than any platform game not released by Nintendo. Fantastic.
