General is basically, but definitely not solely, a war based game. But with options to do extensive research with scientists as well as hiring and training peasants the game has more depth than one would expect.
Visually the game doesn't as such have a great deal to offer on first inspection. But after playing the game for a while you will find it has an interface which contains all the information in a simple way, yet displaying hidden detail not normally found.
A game worth looking at for those who are strategically minded or have an interest in classic war games. But be warned, if you are looking for non-stop action and amazing graphics and audio then you are barking up the wrong tree.
